FAQs
I hope the questions and answers below will give you all the information you need. If you still have questions, don't hesitate to contact us.
How should I transport my trophy from the place I harvested it to the taxidermy shop?
You should skin out the trophy up to the neck, and freeze it, or if it will be more than a few days and freezing it will be an issue, skin out the whole animal and you’ll have to make sure at least 80% of the fat and meat is off the skin and then salt it (non-iodized salt). After you salt it and let it dry for a few hours hang it up so more of the fluids can drain out of the skin (preventing bacteria beds from forming which causes hair to slip). If you have to skin the head out, please take you’re time and follow the bone contour of the head as closely as possible. If you haven’t done it, and don’t feel comfortable let someone else that has done it before help you out.
_____
How often should my mount to be cleaned?
We recommend cleaning your mounts every six months.
_____
Do you offer taxidermy mount cleaning and maintenance?
Yes. We can come to your home or office, or you are welcome to bring the mount to our facility for a professional clean and any required maintenance.
_____
How long does it take to receive my finished mount?
There are many variables, depending on when shipments of supplies are due, the number of taxidermy mounts ahead of you in the queue and the type of mount requested. To save costs on shipping, I order supplies in bulk, with materials only being added to an order after a deposit has been paid. This means there may be a period of time between you dropping off the trophy and the required supplies being ordered. I offer an express shipping service for an additional fee, which means I will order the materials required for your mount as soon as I receive a deposit + the additional fee. This fee is to cover the increased cost of shipping an individual item. I have a prioritization system for working on mounts once all the materials have been delivered. Those that pay in full go to the front of the queue. If you don't mind waiting you can pay the deposit only, with the balance of payment due once the mount is finished. In all cases I aim to have the finished mount ready for collection within one year.

Do you ship abroad?
We can assist with the export of your taxidermy mount to some countries that do not have specific export approved premises requirements. For example, those countries in the EU will only let you import a trophy or hide that has been processed in an EU-approved export premise. The size of my business and the cost of compliance to register for such countries makes it currently cost inhibitive. If you want to export your taxidermy mount contact me to discuss the options available. A useful resource to understand more of what is needed can be found on the MPI website.
